Fire Academy

The cost of the weekend academy is $3,700 for either weekends or weekdays. 

This cost includes turnout gear rental, two attempts at the TCFP exam, and access to the IFSTA ResourceOne platform. Please see the testing policy for additional information regarding exam attempts.

EMT

Hosted by Texas Rescue Med, Students will recivie acess to E-Book, online learning platfrom from person Vue, background check for EMT (This is diffrent then Fire background), along with first attempt at the NREMT exam. 

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be eligible to receive Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Structural Firefighter certification for Texas, along with IFSAC certification.

Please note: IFSAC certification may transfer to other states, but recognition varies. You should contact your local state certification agency to verify whether it will transfer to your state.

Certification may be obtained after completing the required EMS equivalency training.

The weekend academy is 10 weekends total, for a total of 20 training days. Weekend class hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The weekday academy consists of 1 orientation day followed by 14 consecutive training days. Training hours are 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day.

Students must meet the following enrollment requirements:

• Be 18 years old by the first day of class 
• Have a valid ID 
• Have health insurance 
• Be able to perform physical tasks 
• Have a clean record 

If you have anything on your record, we recommend submitting an Early Record Review form to TCFP prior to enrolling.

The enrollment deadline is 30 days prior to the start of the course.

Yes. Fire training is physically demanding and requires students to safely perform a variety of hands-on tasks in realistic training environments.

Students should be physically able to complete tasks such as:

• Carrying ladders weighing up to 120 pounds 
• Dragging victims weighing around 250 pounds 
• Advancing or moving hose loads weighing around 180 pounds 
• Climbing stairs while wearing approximately 50 pounds of gear 

Students should be prepared for strenuous physical activity throughout the academy and be able to safely perform required training skills.

This option is available only to CTRTA students. If you fail the TCFP exam, we will waive tuition for a remedial course and place you in the next appropriate course offering.

Students will still be responsible for:

• Testing fees 
• Gear costs, if needed

Students should bring the following items to class each day:

• A water bottle
  (1 gallon per day is recommended) 
• A notebook 
• A laptop or tablet 
• Snacks 
• A sturdy pair of athletic shoes 

Please note: There is no refrigeration on site, so plan accordingly when bringing food or drinks.
