This course is designed to prepare firefighters to assume the responsibilities of the front right seat—commonly referred to as the "acting officer" position—on an engine company. Emphasis is placed on leadership, tactical decision-making, scene size-up, initial command functions, accountability, radio communication, and crew management during emergency and non-emergency operations.
This fast-paced course is built for engine company drivers/operators who do more than just drive and pull levers—they lead. Beyond the Wheel focuses on thinking ahead of the officer and crew, anticipating their needs before they ask, and owning the fireground from the cab to the pump panel. It’s about being the crew’s silent leader: spotting hydrants before the officer points them out, stretching lines the way the crew wants to work, and setting pressures before water is called for.
This course focuses on the art and science of aggressive but efficient hoseline operations. It’s not just about flowing water—it’s about getting the right line to the right place, using your body instead of burning yourself out, and making every gallon count. Firefighters will learn how to use leverage, momentum, and muscle memory to advance lines quickly and with less fatigue. We’ll dive into nozzle techniques, movement under pressure, and how to win the fireground with deliberate placement.
Riding the front right seat on a truck company isn’t about watching the fire—it’s about owning the fireground. This course is built for truck captains and acting officers who are expected to lead with speed, purpose, and precision. From forcible entry to search, ladders, and ventilation, the truck company sets the tempo—and the officer sets the tone.We focus on the mindset, communication, and tactics needed to lead a truck crew into high-risk environments with clear objectives.
Driving the truck isn’t just about getting there—it’s about setting up for success. This course is built for truck company driver/operators who want to master tactical positioning, aerial deployment, and scene support while leading the setup and flow of operations. Whether you’re first-due to a fire or pulling up as part of a multi-company assignment, your decisions shape the outcome.
Beyond the Wheel is about more than levers and ladders—it’s about anticipating your crew’s needs.
This course is designed for firefighters who want to sharpen their ventilation and ground ladder skills with real tactics, not theory. Ventilation and laddering aren’t just checkboxes—they’re critical truck company functions that directly impact fire behavior, victim survivability, and firefighter safety. Done right, they make the job easier. Done wrong, they make it dangerous.
Tactical Ventilation & Ladders teaches how, when, and why to ventilate, along with how to deploy ladders quickly, safely
The rescue company front right seat isn’t just a title—it’s a mission. This course is designed for firefighters assigned to or acting as officers on a rescue company during structural fires. Whether your company handles primary search, RIT, technical rescue, or forcible entry, your role is unique, high-risk, and time-sensitive.
As the rescue officer, you’re expected to operate independently, support multiple divisions, and stay ten steps ahead of a changing incident.
When things go wrong on the fireground, the Rescue Company steps in—and no assignment is more critical than Rapid Intervention. Rescue Company RIT is designed for firefighters who staff or support RIT functions, preparing them to operate with speed, control, and confidence when a firefighter’s life is on the line.
This course goes beyond basic tool staging and “standing by.” It trains rescue companies to think ahead, deploy with precision, and work as a coordinated team in high-stress situations
This course focuses on the two most time-critical fireground tasks: getting into the structure and getting victims out. Tactical Search & Forcible Entry trains firefighters to operate with urgency, precision, and survivability in mind—executing searches that save lives and entry tactics that get the job done without delay.
Firefighters will develop muscle memory for door control, search patterns, victim removal, and tool-based entry techniques. Whether you’re part of a truck company, rescue crew.
The front right seat on a rescue company responding to common or heavy vehicle rescue incidents isn’t just about being in charge—it’s about seeing the entire scene, anticipating hazards, and setting the tempo for technical operations. This course is designed to prepare rescue company officers and acting officers to lead common entrapment scenes, multi-vehicle collisions, and heavy vehicle rescues with speed, structure, and safety.
Driving the rescue isn’t just about getting there fast—it’s about being the foundation of a successful technical operation. Rescue Company: Beyond the Wheel is built for rescue drivers/operators who want to lead from the rig, set up for success, and support complex scenes with speed, precision, and calm under pressure. This course focuses on vehicle extrication, heavy rescue, and technical scene response from the operator’s seat.
This course is designed for firefighters operating on a heavy rescue company and focuses on aggressive, calculated vehicle extrication tactics using hand and hydraulic tools. Tool Time: Vehicle Extrication goes beyond basic operations—it builds muscle memory, tool discipline, and technical skill in real-world scenarios involving modern vehicle construction, electric hazards, and time-critical patient access.
This is about knowing your tools, using them with confidence, and moving with purpose.
Command from the Buggy is a high-level command and control course designed for company officers, battalion chiefs, and command staff who manage fireground operations from a vehicle. This course emphasizes rapid size-up, incident organization, strategic decision-making, and maintaining control during dynamic and high-risk incidents—all from the command post. You’ll learn how to lead confidently, manage multiple units, assign divisions/groups, and keep accountability.
This course is designed for departments operating in non-hydranted or rural areas where moving water is critical to fireground success. Water Shuttle Operations focuses on building reliable and efficient water supply systems using relay pumping, dump tank setups, and Siamese operations. Firefighters and apparatus operators will learn how to move large volumes of water quickly, maintain pressure, and prevent interruptions during sustained fire attack.
